Der Osteiner Hof wurde von 1747 bis 1752 vom Kurfürsten Johann Friedrich Karl von Ostein für seinen Bruder Franz Wolfgang Damian von Ostein als städtischer Familienwohnsitz erbaut und zählt zu den Adelspalais von Mainz. Die Pläne stammten von dem Architekten Johann Valentin Thomann.

Der Osteiner Hof in Mainz wurde zwischen 1747 und 1752 [1] von Johann Valentin Thoman (1695-1777) im Auftrag des von 1743 bis 1763 regierenden Mainzer Kurfürsten Johann Friedrich Karl von Ostein (1689-1763) als Familienhof für dessen Bruder, den Kurmainzer Oberamtmann Franz Wolfgang Damian von Ostein errichtet.

The Osteiner Hof is one of several Baroque-era palatial mansions along Schillerplatz square in the German city of Mainz. The mansion, along the southern edge of the square, was built in 1747-1752 by architect-soldier Johann Valentin Thomann for Franz Wolfgang Damian von Ostein, brother of Johann Friedrich Karl von Ostein, who was prince-bishop of Mainz at that time.
